As the New Year rolled around, we are now in it – 2025. Many have gone back to work, ready to charge forward, make plans, set resolutions, and launch into the year with a bullish energy.

My start to the year has been slow, and I’m relishing in this time of peace and reflection. The holidays were a whirlwind for me: wrapping up major work projects, keeping up with a demanding social calendar, and ramping up my training. I am grateful to have this time in the new year to exhale, to gather myself, and to prepare intentionally for what lies ahead.

It’s still winter. The flowers have yet to bloom, the Earth turns softly, and the season itself seems to offer a quiet reminder: slow down, rest, and recalibrate. It feels unnatural to force an energetic start just because the calendar flipped to January; personally, I am not ready.

Over the years, and especially as my work has become more seasonal, I’ve become more attuned to how my energy ebbs and flows with the rhythms of the year. Inspiration, creativity, and motivation don’t come linearly, and certainly are not sustainable in a 9-to-5, 365-days-a-year grind. This realization has deepened my appreciation for seasonal living. It’s no wonder burnout is so common – humans aren’t meant to be “on” in such a structured and rigorous fashion.

As I take my time to start the year, I’ve been enjoying journaling, reading, knitting, and prepping for my classes this semester (French and piano). Soon enough, spring will come, bringing with it new energy and momentum. But for now, I’m content to rest in this quiet winter stillness, honoring the natural rhythm of the season – and my own.
